BECID Joins Global Dialogue on Information Literacy at ECIL 2025

From 22–25 September, BECID project manager Gretel Juhansoo participated in the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL), held this year in Bamberg, Germany. ECIL is one of the world’s leading annual gatherings dedicated to information and media literacy, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the globe.

Gretel gave a presentation on the panel “Equity, Inclusion & Ethics in Information Literacy”, where she introduced the TikTok House project developed during BECID’s first funding round.

The project served as a practical example of how media literacy interventions can be designed and implemented in physical spaces. She also outlined how these experiences inform BECID’s second funding round activities, with a special emphasis on the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) sector.

The central theme of ECIL 2025 was Artificial Intelligence, with particular attention given to the evolving role of library professionals in shaping equitable and ethical approaches to information literacy. By showcasing hands-on projects and future directions, Gretel’s presentation positioned BECID within a broader European and global network, strengthening international collaboration and exchange.
