The BECID Steering Committee convened on 18 September to review ongoing activities, share updates from work packages, and prepare for the months ahead.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-Election Monitoring<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Political activity in Estonia remains calm, though monitoring continues ahead of the local elections. Delfi has launched a new weekly newsletter \u201cM\u00e4rgatud: valimised\u201d <\/mark>(\u201cSpotted: elections\u201d), highlighting key election-related developments on social media \u2014 including activity from Russian bots and targeted campaigns toward Russian-speaking voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ad spending by candidates on Meta and Google is also being tracked until the end of September. Due to Meta no longer providing certain datasets, adjustments will be made in Work Package 6 (WP6)<\/strong>, which focuses on data analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work Package Updates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • WP6<\/strong>: <\/mark>A data scraping system is under development, designed for maximum automation. Once live, anyone with the link will be able to view Telegram scraping results and compare datasets. In addition, WP6 will run a media literacy campaign, while fact-checking activities remain on track.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • WP4 (GLAM & Media Literacy)<\/strong>:<\/mark> Tartu University (UT) and BCME are collaborating on mapping media literacy approaches in the GLAM sector. UT students will conduct interviews, and the UT Library will host a pre-election intervention on manipulation tactics \u2014 presented through an interactive \u201cfortune wheel\u201d<\/mark>. This exhibition will open on 29 September<\/strong> and remain on display for three weeks before Estonia\u2019s local elections. In Latvia, BCME has applied for co-financing to launch GLAM-sector workshops later this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • November<\/strong>: <\/mark>Key deliverables include UT\u2019s Ethics Report (D1.3), Updated Communication and Dissemination Plan (D2.1), and Protocol for Testing AI & Verification Tools (D3.2, Delfi Meedia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
