In March, BECID identified two significant and evolving disinformation trends shaping the Baltic and wider European information space. The first Hot Report revealed a coordinated campaign<\/mark><\/a> falsely claiming that Lithuania is not an independent state. By distorting historical and legal facts, this narrative seeks to undermine trust in national sovereignty, weaken confidence in democratic institutions, and blur the legitimacy of EU and NATO member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second Hot Report focuses on the growing influence of pro-Kremlin military bloggers, known as Z-bloggers, who are actively shaping perceptions of a potential Russia\u2013NATO conflict. Operating within a decentralised propaganda ecosystem, these influencers amplify and radicalise official Kremlin narratives, portraying NATO and Europe as aggressors while framing Russia as acting in self-defence. Their messaging \u2013 often emotional, alarmist, and widely shared on platforms like Telegram \u2013 frequently presents war as inevitable and justified, while shifting blame for escalation onto the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, these cases illustrate how disinformation campaigns operate across multiple fronts: from undermining state legitimacy to preparing audiences for geopolitical confrontation. They also highlight the increasing role of loosely coordinated influencer networks in amplifying strategic narratives and shaping public perception at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These findings underscore the importance of continued monitoring, critical media consumption, and coordinated responses to counter the evolving dynamics of information manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
