The BECID 2 project officially kicked off on July 1st, bringing together partners from the Baltic countries to collaborate on tackling disinformation and strengthening media literacy.
The BECID 2 project is built around six core work packages that ensure a coordinated, ethical, and sustainable approach to tackling disinformation in the Baltic region. These include project management and evaluation, strategic communication with vulnerable groups, and strong collaboration with NGOs and outreach events.
Other key areas focus on monitoring disinformation trends, publishing fact-checks, and testing AI and its verification tools.
A new emphasis on media literacy and the GLAM sector brings libraries, museums, and schools into the effort, with an exhibition planned by late 2027. The project also supports research into misinformation’s impact on public engagement and monitors digital policy developments, including political ads and platform accountability.
Regular reporting was also outlined: each country will produce one “Hot Report” every three months, allowing creative freedom in choosing topics, formats, and platforms. Reports will be published and adapted for the BECID 2 website.
The next all-partner meeting is scheduled for September 18, where Task leads will report on progress. Until then, all participants are encouraged to explore the shared Drive folder and begin internal planning within their groups.
A key principle of BECID 2 is cross-team collaboration: fact-checkers, researchers, and media literacy experts are not working in isolation within their own work packages. Instead, their findings, tools, and insights are meant to be shared across the project, ensuring broader impact and meaningful integration of expertise.
