13:45–14:30 – “Teaching Digital Safety to Grades 1-4 Through Playful Methods”
Looking for new and exciting ways to teach digital safety to the youngest students completely without screens? Gretel Juhansoo, media literacy specialist from the University of Tartu’s Institute of Social Studies, presents eight simple and playful methods that you can immediately use in your classroom. You’ll also receive practical game descriptions and the necessary materials to implement what you’ve learned in the upcoming school year.

14:45–15:30 – “Integrating Media Literacy into Subject Lessons for Grades 5-9”
How can media literacy be meaningfully embedded into subject lessons so that it not only adds value but also enhances students’ skills for the digital age? Associate Professor of Media Studies Maria Murumaa-Mengel (University of Tartu) invites you to a workshop where you’ll get to explore how media literacy can be applied in chemistry, Estonian language, and physical education classes. You’ll walk away with a wealth of ideas and techniques ready to be put into practice.

14:45–15:30 – “Artificial Intelligence – What Every Teacher Should Know”
AI is everywhere – but how much do we actually understand about how it works and what it means for schools?

Inger Klesment, media literacy specialist at the University of Tartu, will explain what lies behind tools like ChatGPT and Copilot in a clear and practical way. The session will also touch on risks, legal frameworks, child protection, ethical questions, and how AI is changing learning and teaching.

The goal of the workshop is to offer an honest, balanced, and thought-provoking overview – so that teachers feel more like confident navigators than passive observers in the world of AI.
