BECID WEBINAR | Fraud and Scams

June 1 @ 4:00 pm5:00 pm

WHEN: 1 June 2026
WHERE: Online (Zoom link will be sent to registered participants)
ORGANISER: Baltic Engagement Centre for Information Disorders (BECID)

The webinar will bring together professionals from Estonian memory institutions – libraries, museums, archives, and galleries – to share experiences and discuss opportunities for developing media literacy. We will explore how memory institutions can help their communities better understand the media environment, avoid misinformation, and support critical thinking.

The next BECID webinar will take place on 1 June 2026 and is aimed at memory institution professionals across the Baltics. In this session, we will expand our training series into a new thematic area, focusing on fraud and scams in the digital environment. We will explore the main threats and the most common schemes users encounter today, as well as how to recognise and prevent them. We will also discuss how fraud relates more broadly to the digital information environment and online security.

Special attention will be given to the role of library, archive, museum, and gallery professionals in situations where people need assistance with digital services or may encounter potential scams.

The event is part of the BECID training series, which introduces approaches to media literacy development in the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) across the Baltics.
