This Language Strategy for Conducting Regular Fact-Checking Activities (hereinafter – Language Strategy) defines language use, translation priorities, and dissemination workflows for BECID2 fact-checking activities, ensuring efficiency, accessibility, and maximum impact across target audiences.
The BECID2 content will be produced and published in Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Russian and English – both as original content and translations. Language selection will follow target audience needs and content relevance:

The following workflow describes how content will be created, translated, published, and monitored across different languages during the project implementation:
- Content Creation: national fact-checking teams create fact-checks in their respective local languages.
- Language Decision: each partner team decides which fact-checks to translate and whether to produce them in Russian or English, following the criteria above.
- Translation Process: use AI-assisted translation (e.g., DeepL, ChatGPT) for draft versions. A human editor reviews the final version to ensure linguistic and contextual accuracy.
- Publication: local-language, Russian, and English fact-checks are published on partner media platforms, the BECID website, and EDMO channels:
- Partner media platforms: each partner is responsible for publishing their own fact-checks (both in local languages and, where applicable, in Russian and English) on their respective media platforms.
- BECID website: fact-checks will automatically appear on the BECID website via RSS feed integration, based on partner-provided tags. The University of Tartu is responsible for the technical setup and maintenance of this process.
- EDMO channels: fact-checks from the BECID website will automatically appear on the EDMO website via existing integrations. University of Tartu, as the BECID website owner, is responsible for this process. If any additional information is required that cannot be transferred automatically, the process will be agreed separately with the partners.
- Reporting & Monitoring: all outputs are logged in the fact-check tracking sheet and project management system (e.g., Notion). Language balance is reviewed every 2 months in consortium meetings.
All outputs will follow the BECID2 visual identity and be disseminated according to the consortium’s Communication Plan.
